Dear friend, it's time to use your voice for equity.

HF 228 would remove the authority of local school districts to use voluntary diversity plans to guide open enrollment decisions. State law currently give Iowa school districts the ability to develop these plans to help achieve socio-economic balance in their schools.

Gutting local diversity plans is a serious blow to the principle that every Iowa child should have quality educational opportunity, no matter their ZIP code. Children of color in particular face systemic disadvantages baked into our public systems over generations. The bill will make inequality worse by increasing segregation and cutting the budgets of districts serving large shares of students of color.

This bill has already passed the Iowa House and is headed to the Senate any day. Please act to help stop it from advancing.
